The first post...

Welcome to the inaugural posting on my blog. The title is from Some Like it Hot, a 1959 film starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe. This film is hilarious and I highly recommend it. Anyway, the title is a famous quote from the end of the film.

The purpose of this blog isn't to post the latest dumb surveys I've taken or what not (that's for Facebook or LiveJournal, lol); but rather, to post things of actual substance. I'm looking to create a venue for me to post my latest successes, struggles, thoughts (whether they be philosophical, random or whimiscal or whatever) and ideas. Whether or not this blog interests other people isn't really the main point. It's more a vehicle of self-reflection for me. As a person who has been using computers since the age of 4, I'm more apt to journal online as opposed to in an actual paper journal. I don't have the dedication for that; but I see myself being more successful in an online capacity. My blog will be more of a stream of consciousness; but hopefully still makes sense, even if it jumps around.

I'm currently trying to embark upon a journey of self-improvement-- mainly in the form of weight loss, nutrition and generally being healthier. I'm also looking to make some other non-physical changes-- like reading more and trying to keep my apartment cleaner. Basically, I'm trying to attain a better quality of life. Not that my life is bad, but I know it could be better and I feel like I'm wasting my 20s. I'm 25 now, my 20s are already half over.

Anyway. I hope that I can update my blog on a fairly regular basis-- I can't promise that I will update it everyday... as I don't know if I'll have something amazing to update it with all the time. But who knows. I also plan to update it with little things I find that inspire, amuse, are thought provoking, etc. That way I don't have to write a long winded blog all the time :-) Not only will this blog be a journal, but it'll also be a virtual scrapbook of sorts as well.

I have a couple quotes that I found that I thought were especially interesting.

Energy and persistence conquer all things - Benjamin Franklin

I sure agree with Ben Franklin on this one. The only way for me to lose weight is to be proactive and constantly working on it. If I try to count on something else to motivate me to work on this goal, I will never achieve it.

If we did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves - Thomas Edison

Tom Edison would know. He invented electricity for godsakes and the world would be quite a different place without it. Everyone is capable of so many amazing things and so much potential is wasted because people don't apply themselves or wants to even try. I know I can achieve my goals. I just need to apply myself and have will power.

Carpe Diem!
